Let's have a "welcome to the planet" celebration!

Emigrating? Immigrating? Found an apartment? Found a job you like? Released from jail or prison? Completed probation or parole? Retiring?Graduated from something? Let's find a way to celebrate this moment!

Some of us find someone else with whom we want to spend the rest of our lives. And sometimes that someone else feels the same way about us! (RU both sure? Talk to your chaplain!). You are happy and you want to yell about this to the rest of the world.  If that is not a reason to celebrate, what is?! Let's have a ceremony to celebrate this miracle! Let's design an event that is compatible with your traditions and beliefs, and - most importantly- one that'll do justice to you both. 

Sometimes we find that despite our best efforts, we are no longer compatible, and we would be better off to go our separate ways (RU both sure? Talk to your chaplain!). If this happens, it is in everyone's best interest to treat each other with respect and compassion - despite the disappointment we feel. Let's celebrate the good times we had. Let's make a commitment to treat each other with kindness and respect in the future. And let's invite our loved ones to join us in celebrating this. 

We all die. All of us. Most of us don't want to, but we do anyway. Most of the people we love don't want us to die either, but we do anyway. Most of us don't want our loved ones to die, but they do anyway. There may be a lot we want to say or do before we die (Talk to your chaplain!). There may be a lot we want to say or do before our loved one dies (Talk to your chaplain!). And once someone is dead, our options are limited. But we can celebrate the dead person's life. Let's talk about it. 

We believe that it defies the natural order for any human to have dominion over another. Regardless of its theological or philosophical underpinnings, the belief in freedom and justice has inspired and sustained humans all across the world and throughout all of history. Unfortunately, freedom is almost always under threat, and has to be won again and again. We will struggle to restore and maintain freedom for all whose freedom has been taken. We strive to abolish all prisons. 

Without food there can be no life and no freedom, only a desperate fight for survival. Food is key to health and happiness for all humans. There is enough soil, water, and sunlight on our planet that no mouth should go unfed, and no thirst unquenched. We will work to alleviate hunger and malnutrition throughout the world. When people see beyond the immediacy of day-to-day survival, great thoughts, ideas, and futures can flourish. Also: food is delicious, and we love sharing a meal! 

We are born with sexual instincts. These should be celebrated, not stifled and condemned. In the same way that the pursuit of freedom should be held in check by the consideration of the freedom of others, sexuality should have no other requirement than that it is free of coercion and exploitation. Sex should be celebrated as a positive force, not condemned or hidden. To deny or feel ashamed of our instinctive urges is to deny life itself.
